A castle was built beside the natural harbour to keep the locals safe. Marmaris Castle has been attacked, destroyed, rebuilt, and renovated throughout history. Since it now has a museum containing artefacts from nearby ancient sites, it is a great spot to visit. Among the various galleries are artefacts that were retrieved from Kaunos and Knidos, to mention a couple. The courtyard is a peaceful retreat, and the view of the sea from the towers is captivating.

Marmaris is surrounded by nature. Enjoy the ever-present blue sea, mountains covered in pine needles, Günnücek (Marmaris National Park), and Heaven Island’s Nimara Cave. Nimara Cave is actually the ideal place to cool yourself on a hot summer day. It resembles being on an other world. with dark grey and deep green stalactites and stalagmites peering back at you.
Although you’ll need to leave town, the beautiful drive via Günnücek and along the shore is a wonderful perk! A little admission fee must be paid if you intend to make a halt in Günnücek Park. The park, nevertheless, is certainly worth it. It includes wooden walkways and platforms for a leisurely stroll all the way down to the beach, and it provides lots of shade under the many Pine and Sweetgum trees.
