Demircili Tombs

Near Silifke

with Slowtravelguide

When travelling through Turkey, it is not always clear where to find the exciting spots or buildings, but in the case of the Demircili Tombs, it was hard not to see them, very conspicuous on the side of the road.

There are four tombs in this area. The facade style is Ionic – Corinthian and dates from the Roman Empire Period 2nd and 3rd Centuries AD.

Tomb Nr. 1

Tomb Nr. 1 is located on the East side of the road Silifke to Uzuncaburc, next to the road. Notice the bust (most likely of the owner), which sits at the triangular pediment at the top.

Practical Information

These tombs are not a destination on their own; visit them when you are in the neighbourhood.

Enough attractive destinations nearby.

When you leave the Demircili Tombs behind you, follow the road going East, you will reach the Ancient City of Diocaesarea (Uzuncaburc).

Don’t forget to make a stop at Ali Ihsan Usta’s restaurant (located between Tombs Nr 1 and 2), they serve a delicious lahmacun.

Tomb Nr. 3 and 4

Tombs Nr. 3 and 4 are two parallel monumental tombs. The one on the right has two stories. Inscriptions and animal figures indicate this was the tomb of an important family.
